Does healthy cooking stress you out? Pressure cooking can change that.
You know that cooking healthy and nutritious meals in your own kitchen is important, but it can be expensive, take a lot of time and effort, and be a pretty stressful experience overall. If you’ve been avoiding cooking at home, pressure cooking can transform how you see food and the cooking process once and for all. Electric pressure cookers like the Power Pressure Cooker XL are safer and more effective than ever. They are a far cry from the first pressure cookers, which were invented in the 17th century, and are seeing a resurgence in popularity as more people become interested in healthy home cooking. This book will walk you through everything you need to know about the benefits of pressure cooking, and how to safely operate one from getting it out of the box to cleaning it. You’ll find diagrams and descriptions of every button, so you’ll feel more than ready. It’s easy to cook any meal in your pressure cooker, whether it’s breakfast, dessert, or bone broth, with just the one pot. No more baby-sitting the oven or skillet, and no more long wait times before your meal is ready. The pressure cooker is the fastest cooking method there is thanks to the airtight seal that raises the boiling point of water, so even foods that normally take a long time (like stews and BBQ) will be significantly speedier. What other kind of food can you make in an electric pressure cooker? “The Power Pressure Cooker XL Cookbook: 200 Delicious Electric Pressure Cooker Recipes for Fast, Healthy, and Amazingly Tasty Meals” includes recipes like:
  • Banana French toast
  • Stuffed turkey breast
  • Beef taco pie
  • Baby back pork ribs
  • Shrimp fried rice
  • Scalloped potatoes
  • Paleo buffalo wings
  • Vegan vegetable pot pies
  • Cheesecake
  • Banana bread
If you’ve been seeing how popular electric pressure cookers are, but have been hesitant to invest in one, now is the time! With your new pressure cooker and this book in hand, you’ll be prepared to start cooking great meals right away; the pressure cooker will not become a purchase that just sits at the back of your cupboard. Healthy cooking and eating can be free from stress - you’ll see results very soon!

Meet Vanessa Olsen, proud author residing in Waterloo, Ontario with her affectionate cat, Nellie. She graduated from Ryerson’s prestigious School of Nursing in the spring of 2010 and now works as a sports nutritionist. As a child, Vanessa was known in her hometown of Gilford, Ontario for growing her own veggies in the backyard and captaining many different sports teams. It is no wonder she grew up to be the health nut she is while helping others with her health nut knowledge.

Her job requires patience and a lot of research. Every work day, Vanessa educates athletes on different areas of diet, nutrition, and exercise. Each athlete is very unique, having distinct lifestyles, eating habits, training schedules, medications and supplements. All these elements need to be taken into consideration before an applicable action plan can be put together to better their health and performance. In a typical work week, Vanessa works with up to 30 different athletic clients.

When Vanessa isn’t teaching athletes how to up their game, she can be found at the gym upping her own. Her protein powder collection is impressive – it’s usually the first thing she shows off when guests come to visit. This goes without saying that her favorite room in the house is the kitchen. She has a passion for creating and preparing her very own home-grown, nutritious recipes – many of which can be found throughout her books!

Vanessa’s job allows for lots of vacation days that she puts towards her infamous solo trips. Vanessa almost always travels alone as she says it helps her clear her mind and get back to her roots. Her solo trips have seen the likes of Cuba, Florida, Germany, France, Spain, and Britain. She has recently become curious to see what her own backyard has to offer, and has spent the past couple years pulling out a map of Ontario and planning a couple days away whenever she gets the chance. She hopes to retire into an RV, as she wants to see all of the United States in the form of one big road trip one day.

Through her life, Vanessa hopes to make the world a better place through her small everyday actions. She is an avid recycler – her favorite type of recycling is picking up classic rock band tees from the thrift store and sewing them down to her size. The animal lover in her puts very special care and attention to making sure all of her beauty products do not test on animals and all meat she consumes is either game or brought-up by a responsible, free-run farmer. Her side projects include volunteering for her town’s litter pick-up day and putting money aside of organizations like Kiva and Avaaz. She hopes these tiny, everyday actions are creating a positive ripple effect that reaches all ends of the earth, and will continue to for many years after her departure from the world.

Power Pressure Cooker XL Cookbook is a thick volume of recipes for power pressure cookers, specifically the Power Pressure Cooker XL machine. It not only gives recipes but very specific instructions on how to work the machine through the recipe which is extremely helpful. The author also includes a section on how power cookers were invented and the differences between pressure cookers with other forms of slow cookers and even between different types of pressure cookers. The recipes are very diverse yet most are very affordable and span a wide range of different types of cooking.
The part I liked best about this book was how specific the instructions were with using the power cooker. I have to be honest, I thought this was for a slow cooker when I picked it up and once I saw it was a pressure cooker I was a little nervous but thought maybe I could just adjust the recipes for use in a slow cooker…which now is doubtful but I’m glad that kept me interested. Power cookers look overly complicated to me and I also live in fear of one blowing up. I feel a little safer about looking into purchasing one now. I was grateful for the troubleshooting and history sections in this book. I think I may have to purchase a pressure cooker now.
The recipes were very diverse and covered everything from Indian to Mediterranean. The ingredients for the recipes were overall very affordable. There were some very simple recipes like hashbrown and bacon casserole and scalloped potatoes all the way to sweet potato peanut butter soup and lamb stew. There was a vegan section and a paleo section. Another helpful thing the author did was not only give calories for the meal but also gave a breakdown of protein, carbs, fat, and fiber. This will really help people who eat certain ways or who are dieting. There is just a good variety here and most of it looks delicious! The sections cover everything from different meats, vegetables, soups, sauces, and even desserts. The balance is amazing and makes this easily one of the best cook books I’ve picked up.
I was a little disappointed that even the meat dishes came out with a high carb rate. I personally try to eat high protein meals and I was disappointed to see the carbs ratio to protein ratio for a lot of the meals. The Paleo section saved it for me and there were other substitutions by the author to increase the protein rate but I think I’d like to see a little more protein friendly dishes in future cookbooks. This is really my only complaint.
Speaking of which, for signing up for the author’s newsletter, I got another four free cookbooks! I can’t wait to look through them and one looks specific for the Paleo diet. The author has a blog and many other cook books as well and if they are as good as this one, I’m a fan. If you are curious about pressure cookers and want to have a variety of dishes including the staples for use with one, this is the book for you.

Power Pressure Cooker XL Cookbook is a thorough, interesting cookbook for this powerful tool, and does a great job to teach new owners of the appliance how to operate it. The recipes do not assume that you have used the pressure cooker before, and there is a great section in the front about how to operate your pressure cooker.

This book has 200 recipes for things that I would have never have thought that I could make with a Power Pressure Cooker XL. There are several cheesecake recipes, as well as some breakfast recipes. Of course, its unlikely that someone would purchase this book without owning a pressure cooker, but I think that the table of contents in this book is enough encouragement to try one if it interests you.

One of the most surprising parts to me was the books hefty Vegan section, and there are also vegetarian recipes throughout the rest of the book. I wouldn't have thought that this tool was a good fit for vegetarians and vegans, but it proved me wrong!

This book is amazing if you have a Power Pressure Cooker XL, and I think it would be a great addition if you're giving the cooker to someone as a gift. If you have a Power Pressure Cooker XL and aren't sure where to start, or just use it to make the same recipes over and over again, you need this cookbook!

I am not a lover of pressure cookers. My earliest memory of them is as a kid and every Sunday the evening meal would be cooked using a loud and dangerous stove top pressure cooker. The food would have no colour and definitely no taste. My father warned us to never touch or go near it because it could go off like a bomb if we raised the lid. I saw this book and just had to take a look because I couldn’t believe that there could possibly be two-hundred recipes for one of these horrid machines. After reading this recipe book, Ms. Olsen has changed my mind about pressure cooking and I think I may be purchasing one like is used in the book in the near future.
This book is based on the Power Pressure Cooker XL which, where I live, is $120 and that is probably a higher price because things are quite expensive here. The author does provide information about how to gear the recipe towards other types of pressure cookers if you don’t own this particular kind. There are recipes for everything in this book, from breakfast to snacks, and it’s quite unbelievable that so many things can come from this piece of equipment. I took a week to try some of the recipes that caught my eye using a stovetop pressure cooker and, I have to say, they turned out quite well. There is a lemon poppy seed cake recipe that tastes just like my husband’s grandmother’s cake. I also made a huge pot of clam chowder that was to die for. There were some recipes that didn’t turn out so well but I think that was due to my own mistakes and not the recipe itself. Boiling eggs is not something I will be using the cooker for since I never found that they came out the way I wanted them to.
Ms. Olsen starts the book with a history of the pressure cooker which is actually quite interesting. I never imagined that it has been around for as long as it has been. She then gives lots of information about how to use this type of pressure cooker and it was very helpful. At first I thought the whole book was very much like an infomercial but it is so well set up and easy to use that I quickly fell in love with the book. The recipes are easy to read and understand and the step-by-step process makes them easy to carry out. There is something for everyone here and this is a great book to have, especially if you’re not comfortable with pressure cookers. I do wish there were pictures which, for me, are key to a cook book but overall, this is a great book to add to my collection.
I read it on my ereader and it formatted perfectly. The cover relates to the topic and draws the eye. Excellent!

Some great recipes, but the choice of cooking buttons is not always correct. Indicates to adjust time down on some buttons which is not an option on my PPCooker. The first mac and cheese recipe I tried did not turn out, but a subsequent rice and prawn dish was amazing, Would have loved some pictures
